Spearhil's August - George

Spearhil's August is kennel named after the breeds original fan & developer Karl August & takes his pet name from his date of birth being born on the 23rd of April - St Georges Day - 13 hours after his siblings, you can read more about George in our news blog for he is our lovely 'Squealer' thankfully his vocal entrance into this world has not carried through as he has gotten older, something that has been a great relief as the old wives tales would have you believe that a dog whose vocal on the day he's born will be vocal till the day he passes. He is definitely a welcome contradiction.

George's socialising has begun with a short trip to the local carnival where he & his brother Ernie were a very popular attraction for old & young a like catching the eye of the local photographer & Mayor who sneeked a quickie photo before carrying out the rest of his days duties. Not a bad entry into the outside world. As he is part of a group of litter mates individual training & socialising is very important for his future development so puppy walkers will be started at the beginning of July with trips to Sussex University & Brighton town where contact with people of varying ages & lots of different noises that will help set them up for life can be experienced.

As a guide for socialising we are using a book recommended by the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association called 'Training your Puppy the Guide Dog Way' which can be purchased online through 'Pets at Home'. This book is an excellent example of a good training book with clear & easy steps to follow for the novice owner so a copy has been sent to all our new families & I would highly recommend it to anyone with a new puppy.

Our outing to the WCGB's funday in Worpleston, Surrey was great fun & George had a great time. Plans are in place for Georges gundog training starting at six months of age which I am very much looking forward to, if he is anything like his sire which I believe he has the potential to be then its going to be a fun, exciting & challenging experience, one that personally I am looking forward to.

George had a great day at the CLA gamefair thanks to all those that came to say hello he had a great day & slept the night away...gently snoring!! Swimming lessons have begun both in the sea & fresh water lakes like Bewl Reserve. Sheep training was a great success!! Lots to do at this stage & he's taking it all in his stride, a real happy chappie.
